Additionally, you can sort how you want your Contact List displayed within Lync. Select the Sort button, located on the right side of the Lync screen. You can sort your Lync contacts by the preferred display method. Select one of the following options from the drop-down menu. Lync for mac free download - Lync, Microsoft Lync 2010 (64-Bit), Microsoft Lync 2010, and many more programs.
Before starting your install
- Check to see if Lync is already on your computer. If you're running Office 2013 on your PC or a newer version of Office for Mac 2011, there's a good chance it's installed.
- Find out if your computer equipment is on ITS CorePlus support. If so, contact the Solution Center (294-4000 or solution@iastate.edu) to have Lync automatically pushed to your computer.

Here are some tips on using Lync for instant messaging and more.
Lync Client For Mac
Windows
- Ensure that you have 'admin' rights to your computer. You'll need them for the install.
- From the 'start' icon, click on 'computer,' then 'map network drive' at the top of the window.
- Select a drive letter and, in the 'folder' input box, type 'software.iastate.edusoftwareLync' and click 'finish' button.
- Click through these directories: 'Lync' > 'Install' > 'PC' > 'Lync 2013 with SP1.'
- To install the software, click 'setup.'
- To burn a CD image of the software for a later install, go back up to 'Lync 2013 with SP1,' then click 'DVD image' and save the enclosed file.
Mac
- Ensure that you have 'admin' rights to your computer. You'll need them for the install.
- From your desktop, simultaneously click command+K to access the 'connect to server' window
- In the server address blank, type 'smb://software.iastate.edu/software/Lync.'
- The software server icon will appear on your desktop. Click through these directories: 'Lync' > 'Install' > 'Macintosh' > 'Lync 2011 for Mac' > 'files.'
- To install, drag 'lync_14.0.10_141024.dmg' to your desktop and click it.
- To burn a CD image of the software for a later install, go back up to 'Lync 2011 for Mac,' click 'CD image' and save the enclosed file.
Microsoft has rebranded its unified communications client, Lync, as Skype for Business. As of January 22, 2017, if you're running Windows, you'll see the Skype for Business interface. Lync for Mac still works to access IU's UniCom service.
Both Lync for Mac and Skype for Business allow you to:
- Chat using instant messaging
- Make PC-to-PC phone calls
- Make video calls
- Share files
- Share your desktop
- See others' availability and manage the information others see about you

Phones
IU faculty and staff can obtain Lync-compatible devices (USB devices or IP phones) by going through their department telecommunications coordinators and/or their ITPros. For more about available devices, see About office telephone equipment at IU.
