ESET Remote Administrator supports the new generation of ESET security products and is also compatible with the previous generation of products. The Installation/Upgrade guide covers many ways to install ESET Remote Administrator and is generally intended for enterprise customers.

Installation from the .pkg file

During installation and the first startup of your ESET products for macOS installed from the .pkg file, it is necessary to have internet access on your mac to allow Apple to verify ESET kernel extensions notarization.

  1. Click the appropriate link below to download the ESET Endpoint Security or ESET Endpoint Antivirus installer file:

  2. The install package will appear in your Downloads folder or the default folder set by your browser. Double-click the installer file to open it.

  3. Double-click Install ESET Endpoint Security. When prompted, click Continue to launch the Installation Wizard.
  1. Remove any existing security applications such as antivirus, antispyware or firewall from your computer if you have not done so already. Click Continue if no other security applications are installed.
  1. Review the system requirements and click Continue.
  1. Read the ESET Software License Agreement and click Continue → Agree if you agree.
  1. Select Typical installation mode (select Custom if you want to configure your own settings) and click Continue.
  1. In the ESET LiveGrid window, select your preferred option and click Continue. If you decide later that you would like to change this setting, you will be able to do so using LiveGrid setup.
  1. In the Potentially Unwanted Applications window, select your preferred option (see What is a potentially unwanted application?) and click Continue. If you decide later that you would like to change this setting, you will be able to do so using Advanced setup.
  1. Click Install. If you are prompted to enter your macOS password, enter it and click Install Software.

After the first installation on mac OS 10.13 and later, you will receive a System Extension Blocked notification and Your computer is not protected notification from your ESET business product.

  1. Click Open System Preferences.
  1. Click Security & Privacy.
  1. Click the lock icon in the lower-left hand corner to allow changes to be made.
  1. Click Allow next to System software from developer 'ESET, spol. s.r.o.' was blocked from loading.

Allow button disabled

Physical access to the computer is required to allow the kernel extensions. The Allow button will be disabled if you are remotely accessing the computer.

  1. Click Restart.

Access user protected data

After the first installation on mac OS 10.14, you need to allow your ESET product to access user protected data in order to receive full protection.

  1. From the Apple menu, click System Preference → Security & Privacy.
  1. Click the Privacy tab.
  2. Select the Full Disk Access option.
  3. Click the Lock icon so that you can make changes.
  1. Drag and drop the ESET application icon into the Allow list or click the + icon and select your ESET application.
  2. Your computer will display a notification to restart your computer. Click Later. Do not restart your computer in this step.
  1. Restart your ESET product manually or reset your computer.
  2. ESET Endpoint Security for macOSonly:The New network connection detected window will appear. Select Home or Work from the drop-down menu if you are performing this installation in an office or home setting on a secure network. We recommend that you select the check box next to Remember network so that you do not have to configure settings for this network each time you restart your computer. Only select Public if you are traveling with your client computer and ESET Endpoint Security detects a new network in a public environment. Click OK when you are done making changes.

End of support for version 6.4 and 6.5 of ESET Remote Administrator / MDM

ESET Remote Administrator version 6.5 is currently in Limited Support status and will soon be in Basic Support status. It is expected to reach End of Life status in December 2020.

Peer certificates and Certification Authority that are created during the installation are by default contained in the Static Group All.

  1. Open ESET Remote Administrator Web Console (ERA Web Console) in your web browser and log in.
  1. Click Deploy ERA Agent.

  1. In the Create Agent Live Installer section, you can select Create Installer or Select existing. In this example Create Installer option is selected.

  1. Select Parent group where the computer will be contained after the installation.

Eset Remote Administrator Download

  1. Click Get Installers.

Remote Clients

If you are creating a live installer to allow remote clients to check into a central ERA Server, expand Configuration. In the Server Hostname (Optional) field, type the public fully qualified domain name (FQDN) or public IP address for the ERA Server and then click Get Installers.

  1. Next to Agent Installer for Mac, click Download. Make note of the file's saved location.

  1. Distribute the Live Installer file to your Apple client(s) using email, a shared network folder, or whatever means you choose. Download the file to the Desktop on your client(s).
  2. After you have downloaded the file to the client(s), double-click EraAgentInstaller.tar.gz to extract the file. EraAgentinstaller.sh will be extracted to your Desktop.
  3. Click Go → Utilities and then double-click Terminal to open a new Terminal window.

  1. In your new Terminal window, enter the following commands:

    1. cd Desktop
    2. bash EraAgentinstaller.sh

macOS Sierra users need to use root access

If you are using macOS Sierra, run the command:

sudo bash EraAgentinstaller.sh

instead of:

Eset Remote Administrator Console Download

  1. When you are prompted for your password, type the password for your user account. Though characters will not appear, your password will be entered. Press Return when you are finished to continue installation.
  2. Click Go → Utilities and then double-click Activity Monitor. Click the Energy tab and locate the process called ESET Remote Administrator Agent to verify that the Agent is running. You can now manage this client computer using ESET Remote Administrator.

  1. If you are performing a new installation of ERA, proceed to Step 5, deploy ESET endpoint products to your client computers.
